posticon Runboard Directory Series ~ How it Works

The Runboard Discovery Series (RDS)
HISTORY: The Runboard Directory Series (RDS) started about the middle of 2006 as a way for Pastor Rick to have fun while updating the RunSearch engine which was wayyyy out of date. The intent and goal was to help promote interesting looking boards while the Runboard staff figured out what to do with their own "Board of the Month" (BotM). The RDS ceased being a solo endeavor in 2007 when the Runboard staff decided to drop their version of the BotM and the RDS became a team effort. At this time it was still "just a game" with Pastor Rick making decisions "on the fly" when problems came up. Very late in 2007 or early 2008 Thor decided to grant page view awards to the years best public message board and set the RDS as the only "official" promotion where Runboard and public message boards played together to try and help boards grow in both prestige and membership. Thor's generosity caught us by surprise and the RDS team had to scramble to define rules and guidelines changing our simple game into a real "official" event. It wasn't easy, we made some mistakes, but each year we have modified and changed the first hasty rules creation in a effort to maximize the fun and fairness of the RDS for all involved. In 2014 the game tried a four tier system used to choose the Runboard of the Year. The results were good but took way to much time and effort to be enjoyable by all. So in 2015 we have changed the system to a three tier system and simplified several steps to bring back the "fun" element for all involved. I hope you enjoy participating in it as much as we did in creating it. --Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

PURPOSE & GOALS: The RDS Polls are intended to provide a fun and safe atmosphere while promoting the growth of both Runboard and the message boards.

The RDS Tier System: To make things interesting the RDS uses a "modified and enhanced" polling and discussion format in a effort to determine the best Message Board in each tier. The Tiers are:
emoticon emoticon 1. Pre-poll discovery: The RDS staff goes looking for boards that will be playing in the
emoticon Board of the Week (BotW). Our process of finding boards at this stage is totally random and
emoticon a board owner has the right to both request or refuse nomination in this tier. To request
emoticon nomination simply post your request in the ]Post your own board nominations here topic.
emoticon emoticon 2. Board of the Week (BotW): The Board of the Week is set up as a poll and comment
emoticon system to choose which board will be the BotW winner along with the 2nd and 3rd place
emoticon winners. The poll allows active Runboard members to pick up to three (3) message boards
emoticon before they place their vote. In addition, if an active member makes a constructive or
emoticon promotional comment they can "earn" their board a second vote that is added to the poll
 emoticon totals.
emoticon emoticon 3. Board of the Month (BotM): The Board of the Month is a RDS staff plus active
emoticon member comment/promotional post system. We post a list of the boards that have made it
emoticon from tier 2 (BotW) to this level then the RDS staff ranks each board. To this we add any
emoticon positive comments or promotional posts made by active Runboarder's and the highest
 emoticon point total wins.
emoticon emoticon 4. Board of the Year (BotY): The Board of the Year is a RDS staff plus active member
emoticon vote system. We post a list of the boards that have made it to the Board of the Year
emoticon contest; then the RDS staff ranks each board. To this we add votes made by active
emoticon Runboarders and the highest point total wins.

Runboard Eligibility: To be eligible in this RDS Promotion the message board must have:
emoticon (1) Forums which are visible to those who are not members of the board.
emoticon (2) At least one method of contacting an active board staff member.
emoticon (3) A post which is less than six (6) months old to avoid the Runboard inactivity flag.
emoticon (4) Be a message board which has not placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in a Tier 2 (BotW) competition
emoticon during the current calendar year.

Voter/Commenter Eligibility: To play in the RDS as either a voter or commenter a person must:
emoticon (1) Be a member of this board (making one post will do this) and...
emoticon (2) Have at least one post made on any Runboard message board before the start of a
 emoticon BotW competition or...
emoticon (3) Be a current member of a Runboard message board staff.

Fairness Policy: We at The Runboard Directory and in the RDS team do understand that several
emoticon people sometimes share the same computer and try to make allowances for that. Please
emoticon notify Pastor Rick [url=[sign in to see URL] if more than one Runboard person in your home will be voting.

emoticon In your PM please include the screen names used on Runboard for everyone in your
emoticon house who might be voting. Pastor Rick will be keeping a list of these exceptions so
emoticon you only have to make the PM once, there is no need to send Pastor Rick a PM every
emoticon time you want to vote/comment on a poll/contest. Votes and/or comments made
emoticon from the same IP without notifying Pastor Rick first will be discarded.

emoticon No alternate persona voting/comments will be counted towards a boards total. We welcome
emoticon everyone to participate and have fun but as a general rule only votes/comments made by
emoticon publicly active posters on a Runboard message board prior to the start of the RDS
emoticon poll/contest are counted towards the boards total.

Tie-Breakers: In all RDS Competitions our first level tie-breaker is a listing of the board here at TRD. When the board owner lists his or her board on TRD they help insure a win in the case of ties on any of our polls here. The second level tie-breaker is the heartless, computer generated RDS AI.

You agree that by participating in the RDS polls you grant RDS rights to reproduce/publish your boards banner and/or a thumbnail image allowing the promotion your message board, our RDS Services, and any other purpose RDS deems reasonable.

Prizes
The Winning Boards have thumbnail links posted in the Runboard Directory header and are also placed in a "random show" as either (a) RB Popular Site for BotW winners or (b) RB Outstanding Site for BotM and BotY winners. Boards which win the BotW are also placed as a thumbnail link in TRD's ]Wall of Honor.

Boards that win the RunSearch SmackDown Discovery of the Month are entitled to place the following 150px x 150px graphic on their board (starting in 2010 the graphic is 125px x 125px):

Once or twice per year the RDS and Runboard crews get together and hand out a TEA Award (Technical Excellence Achievement Award). Those who receive this award may use this graphic (inspired by the first winner Spouzic) on their board.

The Editors Choice was envisioned as a quarterly award but it has actually become one of Runboards rarest awards. It is for that message board which exemplifies everything one could possibly imagine as a "Runboard flag bearer."

The Board that wins the final Thunder and Lightning round as Discovery of the Year will receive 100,000 premium page views for their board.

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

The 1st runner-up will receive 50,000 premium page views for their board.

The 2nd runner-up will receive 30,000 premium page views for their board.

The 3rd runner-up will receive 20,000 premium page views for their board.

The RDS also reserves 20,000 premium page views to be awarded for outstanding achievement in board design (or whatever else we may think up).

Note: While a board is not restricted from competing in the Thunder & Lightning round multiple times no board may win the same page view award consecutively (for example, if board xyz wins the BotY in year 1 they receive both the graphic award designed for that year and 100,000 premium page views. Should board xyz win again the next year they receive the graphic award but they would only receive 50,000 premium page views in that year).

The current RDS Group (in alphabetical order) is:

Erika, Joxcenia, Justbec, Lesigner Girl, messup434, Pastor Rick, Queenyforever, Susa

These are the people that spend the most time and effort to make the RDS work day in and day out. In addition to this group any Runboard staff member also has voting rights and will do so on occasion to remain current on how things are done.

Re: RunSearch Discovery Series ~ How it Works

Each board owner (or active board admin) receives a PM notice at least 10 days prior to the poll being posted. The PM says your board is being considered for the poll.

Please, if you do not want your board to participate let us know so we can include other boards that really do want to compete, promote their board, and have some fun doing it.
