Runboard Power Outage
This is from the runboard support forums:
Runboard's ISP had a power outage this morning 7 AM GMT. Unfortunately, this happened right before the daily backup takes place. The data has been corrupted and I had no choice other than restore the last good backup I had - the one of Jan 13, 2006 (yesterday).
So we've lost 24 hours worth of data - sorry about it, not much I can do about it at this point.
All the forums, PM, and user accounts are in the state the were in yesterday, at 9:15 GMT.
This also concern the user accounts and boards created since then - they don't exist any more and must be recreated if needed.

Re: Runboard Power Outage
So, that's what happend. Thank you for informing us about this problem.
I've got a good question to ask, if our user accounts don't exist anymore...how come it is that we can still get on all our prospective favorite boards, and post on them?

One of those threads I posted, for which you replied to last night--Moving threads to their correct forums..., I had the fortitude to "personally" print out so I would have it later on, to refer to. So all is not lost on that one.
Do you remember that one, JJ?

Re: Runboard Power Outage
Oh no!!! Oh my...I think I may have to eat crow.
I noticed the outage last night, and when I finally returned to it, the newest posts were gone.
As I am the Head Administrator, I accused my junor Adminsitror of deleting the posts without my knowledge, and let my full fury on him. Oh my...
I told him if he ever pulls a stunt like that again, I would revoke his Admin privileges and reduce him to a Mod, or even ban him from the board.
Over the years, I had dealt with a Senior Mod, on another forum, who, when she didn't like a post, she simply deleted it w/o any explanation. Anyone who questioned her was BANNED. I got fed up and left.
I told my Admin that I would not have another x to work with.
I really laid into him. I have some serious apologizing to do. Oh dear, oh dear...

It was a natural reaction because in all my years online (which is quite a few now), I have never seen such a thing happen. That's why I'm so confused.
Two morals of this story: never trust technology, and only have mods/admin who you can trust implicitly.

Re: Runboard Power Outage
No, EZ has always had a very poor rep so I've only rarely visited places hosted there. I always favoured Proboards, as it's far and away the best of the free hosts, so far as functions and features go. Unfortunately it went downhill, not helped by the most ridiculously restrictive TOS I've ever seen.

Maybe it is and I just got used to it. proboards7 (the server where Duck Billed Platypus was hosted) once went down for over six hours and no data was missing when it came back online But then again, one day it just vanished for no obvious reason. One of the support halfwits said it was for a TOS violation and adamantly refused to discuss the matter further.
