how
how do i add more threads to my forum all i have as a thread is general chat?
also how do i change the layout?
such as a banner at the top?
please help!

Take a look at the Board Owner Basics on Runboard Support - they have the best explanations.
Alternatively, you can look at the FAQ section here. 
Just a quick list for terminology, which will make it easier for you to find the relevant topics:
The message board itself is called "a board", for example: The Runboard Directory".
The next level is called a "forum", such as "General Chat" on this board.
Inside those forums you can find "threads", just as the one you started here.
And what you are reading now is a "post".
