posticon Temple of Illusia: discuss problems w/church & state

"Discuss problems with church and state" is too simplistic to adequately describe the purpose of my forum, "]It's all an Illusion," at the ]Temple of Illusia.

The original concept of the forum was to take an in-depth, honest look at our world leaders, examine why they do what they do, and inform others of our findings, because only through knowledge and acting on that knowledge, can we make a positive difference in society.

The further and further I delved, the more I realized that America has more of a problem with separating church and state than I once believed. It's not just about whether or not to allow "The 10 Commandments" to be hung on Federal property (whose set of 10 Commandments would they hang up, anyway?), it's not just about having a special "sin tax" on tobacco and alcohol, and it's not just about putting "In God We Trust" on our money. No, the inability for any country to separate church and state has caused more wars, both civil and with other countries, than anything else -- it has even put America in a much more dangerous position than many people may realize, and we really need to start acknowledging that.

]It's all an Illusion is not just for Americans. In fact, I hope to attract people from many different countries to share their own diverse viewpoints, as well as to read the viewpoints of others. Respectable debate is encouraged, as I believe it is the best way for people to learn from each other, which is exactly what I'm hoping for.

I feel that it's quite appropriate that this section of the Runboard Directory is for both Politics and Religion, because there will never be a way to separate the two as long as they both exist.

Your board has an interesting concept, and a nice layout in addition. I think you should do well.

Good luck with your board. emoticon

Hi and welcome!

Your board is very, very nice! I’m also sure you will do well with issues and arguments, that are of this world.
The only argument I have is…. arguing with those who are blinded is pretty much blowing in the wind, with the exception of being biblically sound for those searching truth or claim to be true.

This is only “my” opinion. For sure… Winkks is not the gospel, hehe. Thank God!

2Co 4:4
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
Ecc 11:4
He who is watching the wind will not get the seed planted, and he who is looking at the clouds will not get in the grain.

God bless,
-Winkks

Thank you both for the compliments and warm welcome. emoticon

Winkks, matters of this world - the thoughts and beliefs that drive the people within it and how this affects us all - are all I'm really focused on here. After all, there is really nothing we as citizens could do if, say, the Earth left its orbit and started heading for Mars. emoticon Seriously though, I hope you will stop by and share any insights you may have about how we can improve society. emoticon

Re: Temple of Illusia: discuss problems w/church & state

Here are the two most recent topics posted at the forum:

]Seeing unity in diversity — While I don't share their belief in the supernatural, their interpretation of the Bible gives some excellent food for thought.

An ego-centered Christian says, "Jesus is the only way" and an ego-centered Muslim says, "Islam is the only way." The translation of both statements is, "My way or the highway." The ego is the opposite of love...

The ego is motivated by, "What's in it for me?" Love asks, "How may I serve you?" The ego is Satan in us. Love is God in us.

]What will Ehud Olmert do? — Faced with the most probable scenario that Israeli PM Ariel Sharon will not return to his position, I can't help but wonder what direction the next leader of Israel will take. While there is no guarantee that Deputy PM Ehud Olmert will stay in power after his 100 days are up, it's still a possibility, and he has all of power of the PM position until then. So much of the current conflict in this world is directly affected by the conflict in that tiny portion of it, so whatever happens there affects us all...

Update on some of our newest topics:

]God picks the time? — Does the Bible claim that God picks and chooses when and to whom to reveal Himself? Why not just reveal Himself to everyone who seeks Him out? Wouldn't that be fair?

]George Dubya on Church and State — Can/does he ever separate the two?

]Abortion & Birth Control — How late is too late? Take the poll and add your thoughts.

]Are Zionists really Anti-Semitic? — Read what [sign in to see URL] has to say, then tell us your thoughts.

]Burning Alive in Fallujah — "White Phosphorus: The U.S. Used It; The U.S. Says It's Illegal"
This article exposes one of the war crimes committed by our (American) government, and the horrible effects of that crime.

Please stop by for these and more topics, and add your 2¢. emoticon

We're now up to 64 topics, with several posts being made daily. emoticon

Just a few of our newest topics:

]What do you know about Hamas — What will happen now that Hamas is officially in power?

]The Burning of the Library of Alexandria — Ancient historical records, gone forever.

]Italian atheist sues priest over Jesus' existence — False advertisement?

]Great Lies of the American Free Press — Adolph Hitler's "great lie theory" - the political tactic where a leader fabricates "great lies," then "eternally" repeats them until a significant portion of the population comes to accept them as truth. Does this sound familiar?

]What Was The Church Trying To Hide? — Quote: "If we examine the oldest known Bible to date, the "Sinai Bible" housed in the British Museum (I believe that, during his many years of research, Tony had a private viewing of this priceless book), we find a staggering 14,800 differences from today's Bible and yet it still remains the word of God?"

We are now up to 94 topics. Here are a few of the newest ones:

]Look to Orion — A life after death experience, a life-changing dream, or a nice work of fiction?

]Circular reasoning for God's existence — and a few objections to one Christian's answers to objections.

]Nazism and Zionism grew up together? — This discussion has somewhat evolved to include the question of "Father Abraham's" true origins as an underlying theme.

]Ban Newsweek? — For using "an unnamed source to back up a one-sentence statement about desecration of the Koran in American prisons at Guantanamo Bay (allegations of which now appear to have been corroborated from dozens of sources)."

]Cut school funding, sell forestland to fund schooling — What are your thoughts on the government selling previously protected forestland to make up for some of the money lost through tax cuts, war, and contributions to oil-rich countries?

]White House knew about levee breech — Last night (Wednesday, March 1), the Associated Press obtained a smoking gun video of pre-Katrina briefings. Who knew what when? They all knew plenty beforehand, but some were not making the preparations they claimed they were making.
Related: ]Levee decision angers Louisiana residents

]The Exodus Conspiracy"The book's argument is basically that undisclosed papyrus documents supposedly found inside Tutankhamun's tomb contained an account of the Exodus that did not conform to the biblical version and thus could undermine the Jewish people's claimed right to occupy Palestine."

The separation of church and state was originally to curb the government's control over the church and that is what was intended. Our country is showing signs of being pulled away from God, it shows in the news, the weather, in the newspaper.

Hi Baron! Thanks for stopping by, and I look forward to seeing you there more in the future. emoticon

Hi Hasah!

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof

That first part clearly means they are not allowed to show favoritism towards any particular religion.  But regardless, there are a few laws on the books right now that unfortunately "respect an establishment of religion" like the ban on gay marriage, and there is talk of adding more of these infringing laws.

Regarding the nation being pulled away from "God," I don't see a problem with people basing their lives on observation and logic.

On that note, I invite you to discuss your opinions with us at the Temple.  So far, most of the people there seem to agree with most of what I say, and it would be nice to debate with opposing viewpoints for once. emoticon

For those of you who haven't read the threads featured in this thread yet, I just finished editing all the links in this thread to their new post-conversion urls.

I also added Freefind to the board, which is accessible through a search box at the bottom of the board, or by clicking the & Site Map link at the top.

It's been a while since I've posted an update, so I'm posting more than the usual number of threads here:

]NBC Won't Show Madonna on the Cross — Don't you just love it when people dictate what you can and can't watch?

]U.S. jails man once tortured by Taliban — From an overbearing father to a Talibani prison, and now the American government is torturing him. Read his story.

]Republican's bin Laden Ad Sparks Furor — Republicans remind us of their failures, then forget to tell us who to vote for on November 7. What's to get angry about?

]Teen Questioned Over Bush Threats on MySpace — Even while questioning the young girl, the Secret Service couldn't seem to tell the difference between a threat and symbolism. Thanks to them driving her to tears, she has decided to become an true activist.

]Church Fires Teacher for Being Female — The church changes "doctrine" after she had already taught there for 54 years.

]Sailor Says He Watched Marines Kill Iraqi — Read the gruesome details of how one innocent Iraqi was murdered.

]U.S. War Prisons Become Legal Vacuum for 14,000 — Seventy to 90 percent of the Iraq detentions in 2003 were "mistakes," U.S. officers once told the international Red Cross.

]Troops Bragged About Prison Beatings, Marine Says"From the whole conversation, I understood that striking detainees was a common practice," the sergeant wrote. "Everyone in the group laughed at the others' stories of beating detainees."
