Hmmm... The file? I had better reread that email.

It should be a url for a zip file near the bottom of the email (just before my siggy). If... you see that I need to know if you can open it and if it can be printed out (minimum dpi of 200 on whatever printer you use).

I am also looking for "pirate location" pictures to put on the cards. They have to be someting you might see in the early 1700's on a island and the picture size has to be 150px wide x 139 or 138px high. Posting here just in case someone wants to help out on this part...

I don't know where this came from, or if it's real versus man-made, but if you find a really good large image of this icon, it might fit your game.

I found other images just now by doing a search for "Skull Island," "Pirate Skull Island," "Skull Cave," & "Pirate Skull Cave." You might like those too.

Aha! I finally tried to get that file today, but the url is not currently accessible for me.

The game is set to start on April 30, 2014 and I have set the whole day as a off day for myself so I can be available to help work out kinks and glitches as fast as possible.

So far only a few brave souls have said they want to play which is understandable given there has never been a game like this anywhere on the web! Matter of fact I don't think it is physically possible to run a game like this except on a message board system.

So if you want to be among the first now is the time to pick your player card (first come first served) so I can get you set up to play...

Is the game going to stay on the one board, or do you have plans to go on scavenger hunts onto other boards? If so, feel free to use the "Visitor's Isle" forum on any/all of my boards. They are set up so that visitor's can post without becoming members. Or, I'm pretty sure that's how they're set up.

This game is designed for play on a message board. I do not think I'll expand it to other message boards at this time because I need to hone the basic gaming system first. In my own mind I can see how things should work but any game designer will tell you that the initial system seldom survives contact with reality. emoticon

Once the system is proven out and starts running smoothly I might consider "expansion sets" on the game that could include other message boards though.

Thank you,

The last time I was involved in game design was a quarter century ago and I forgot just how much work is involved (memory plays tricks like that).

Almost all of the basic systems are in place now for our first "beta test" session but I pushed the start date out to April 30, 2014 to allow for players to join after my "grand opening."

This is going to be fun. emoticon

Hello,

I'd be very interested on helping out to test this game.
As for images, this guy has collected a fair amount of free to use images: http://beej.us/pirates/index.html
You should also check out this guy: http://www.thepirateking.com/index.htm
As for weapons, it depends if you want to be historically accurate or not, the golden ages of piracy were sometime between 1730 and 1850, which gives you a huge range of choice.

Coolness, if you wish to help in playtesting you should choose a player card to represent your character and post your choice over here so I can start getting your character ready to play. emoticon

The first beta-test game for "Howell Island: The Case of the Dead Pirate!" has begun.

OldWarrior gets the first move...
