How Did you Find Runboard?

I'm just thinking of Topics to add in a few forums..

So I will as This Question.. How did you find runboard?

Well For me It all started Because A friend (Belligerence) had a website and Me and a few other people started To flood her Guestbook with Chatter and such.. so She made a Forum.. Which Happened to Be a Runboard.

I joined Her board under the User name DJ Do0d on August 24, 2004. Soon after I started to browse around runboard and I changed my Nickname cause everyone asked what Do0d was lol.

And the rest Is history.. or something like that.

That's a good question. I've thought about that question myself many times over the years because, unfortunately, I don't remember how I came across Runboard. emoticon

I found runboard when I was looking for the name of a song (and it's artist)...I some how got into the Music Discussion section of Runboard and met CBernice....a few months later I mentioned to another member in the general Chat area that hubby and I had just finished our first Manuscript. A couple days later CB PM'd me and suggested I try out The Scribe ....at first I hadn't realized it was all on the same RUNBOARD...until I was trying to get Hubby registered and everything look so familar.

So that's how GrannyX and CowboyX got onto Runboard. How about the rest of you?

 emoticon emoticon emoticon
Did it again...Cowboy forgot to sign off and I forgot to double check when I came on the computer....Dang It!!!!!!!!! anyway this is Granny not Cowboy!!!!!

About two years ago, I was looking at the homepage of Robin Hobb, a writer of Fantasy. She had a little discussion group going but was closing it down, and one of the members mentioned that she had started a message board as a new home for the group.

That was Fantasy Writing. It took me a week or two of lurking before the urge to comment was stong enough to make me sign up to a message board for the first time in my life. Boy, was I scared! A few months later I discovered Scribe's and that was it. I was firmly hooked to Runboard.

The rest is history, as they say. emoticon

Mine is slightly longer story.

I had a board elsewhere only to get annoying popups. I then searched for sometime to come across something better. some were do difficult or had crazy rules like you could only write in English duh...

Anyway, came across Akheva and accidently a few months later found it was the same as runboard and now that is the rest is history emoticon

I've discovered a related issue in seeking advertisers for CJKDramas.com. Most of the major Internet advertising networks require that the sites on which they advertise be English-only. Even being primarily in English is not enough. emoticon

Example:

Fastclick does not accept websites that:
[…]
7. Consist mostly of forums (chat, message boards, etc.)
[…]
10. Contain non-English web pages

About two years ago (hold on, I can look up the date because I was at a concert when I heard the news... 20th September 2003 emoticon ) the people who hosted a... no, "the" Deep Purple Fans' Forum had to shut it down without warning, leaving all of its members without a home emoticon Several people looked for alternatives and one of them found runboard (akheva, it was then) and set up a new forum emoticon

What followed was a demonstration of the power of network marketing emoticon Beginning with the new founder, everyone started e-mailing everyone else to tell them about the new forum. Most members had the private e-mail adresses of a few other members, and so the word spread through the fans' community. It was actually very cool. I got back from my trip and found about ten invitations... and immediately forwarded them to all the people as I knew, in case I had an address for somebody that nobody else had.

In the end, I think we got every regular member of the old forum back together, minus one troll who we didn't want anyway emoticon

If one user makes a complaint against another, or accuses them of threatening behaviour, or requests that they are banned, the site owners can't judge the facts of the case unless the posts are in a language they can understand.

Imagine you had a board meant for children and two people started up a pornographic conversation. Would you do something about it? Now... what if you had no idea that's what they were doing because you couldn't read the language?

I also have been one of this people who lost the home that time. My husband made a private mailing list and some could stay in touch until the owner of the Deep Purple fan forum found runboard (akheva).

Another possible reason for such rules is that Runboard's support for non-English posts is much better than most other boards. Start using characters other than Western European with most boards, and you'll start encountering all sorts of bugs and limitations.

I used to have a little forum called Duck Billed Platypus on Proboards. It just vanished one day for no apparent reason, and I'd become weary of PB's constant hassles anyway, so I looked around for somewhere to host a new place and found Runboard.

I discovered that I liked the simplicity of the set up, and there were plenty of friendly people and interesting boards, so I stayed.

Re: How Did you Find Runboard?

I actually came across Runboard at about 2 in the morning last November. It was right as a new video game, Halo 2 was launched. I had a website on it, but no message board. So I typed in free message boards in the google search engine, and here I am. I enjoyed my stay from the beginning and I will never look back.
