Help with HTML and CSS at Temple of Illusia
If you want to learn how to customize your Runboard without having to ask, "Where do I change the font size for posts?" or "How do I change the background color of the post submit button?" visit Illustrated Secrets of Design, located at Temple of Illusia. Of course, questions are still welcome, if you can't find your answer or don't understand something.
At Illustrated Secrets of Design, you will find visual reference tools to help you figure out what's what.
The Runboard CSS Class Charts deals with the Custom CSS area and shows, at a glance, all the different classes used on Runboard message boards.
Layout/Colors Explained with Screen Grabs pertains to the Layout/Colors screen of your board's control panel. It includes screen grabs to show which areas of your board are affected by each option, highlighted in red, and further explains how some of the options work.
I also threw together a CSS Practice Page for people who are unfamiliar with how CSS works.
If you have a unique and interesting idea and you're not sure it can be done, feel free to stop by and ask! One person had a really unique and interesting idea for an affiliates scroller (at least I'd never seen it done before). He supplied the idea and the graphics, and I was able to write the code, as well as split one of the graphics into a foreground and background to create the desired illusion.
There are already some great boards on the Runboard system for getting help with customization (Runboard Support, Tips & Tricks, Josh's Board Skins, etc), but hopefully my visuals will help you to better understand what you're doing so you can create some fantastic layouts on your own.

Re: Illustrated Secrets of Design—for Runboard admins
Would you mind if I added a link to your site on mine because your Secrets of Design section is very helpful?

Re: Illustrated Secrets of Design—for Runboard admins
I don't mind at all, mixmax! Thank you very much.
Edit:
While I'm here, I might as well mention the code I came up with for a scrollable clickable smiley box. If you have a lot of huge smileys that stretch out your page, this topic is for you!
Also, thanks to mixmax asking how I got a logout link to appear at the top of the board only when people are logged in, there is now an explanation for that posted at the board.

Re: Illustrated Secrets of Design—for Runboard admins
Updates:
Added Index:
To make it easier to find information, I recently indexed the tutorials and FAQ's into one stickied thread...
INDEX of HELP TOPICS
Added topics:
Beginners: HTML vs CSS
Know the difference between HTML and CSS, and where to put each.
Beginners and experienced alike: Too much CSS to fit in the box?
Clean up that CSS w/shorthand!
Even if you already have enough room, it's always good to minimize the amount of code you use to reduce page loading times and unnecessary stress on Runboard's servers. Every little bit helps!
What affects image file size?
Make sure your images aren't so huge that it takes forever to load your pages. And by huge, I'm not just talking about dimensions.
Non-design advice for new admins
What you should know before opening your first board. People who already have boards may also benefit from this advice. Included in this topic: Learn how IPs work, advertising your board.

Added to Index:
Max-size Avatars vs Fixed-size avatars
Restrict the dimensions of avatars at your board without distorting them. (Does not work with IE6 or lower, but works in Firefox, Netscape, and Opera). The jury is still out on IE7.

Re: Help with HTML and CSS at Temple of Illusia
I forgot to update this thread last time I added something of interest...
There are a lot of benefits to creating your sidebar without messy tables, which include but are not limited to:
• better search engine rankings
• faster loading of pages for dialup users
• easier to edit content
• the visually impaired will love you for it and want to visit more often.
Click the link in this post to learn more.

Re: Help with HTML and CSS at Temple of Illusia
Sorry, I guess I forgot to change them after the RBNS upgrade changed them all last year. I'll edit them right away.
Thanks!
Edit: I think I got them all. Thanks again!
