So, even if the activation email is blocked, a form using that same name can still be re-submitted.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Rimmer)Sun, 08 Jan 2006 08:25:59 +0000 Re: Account Registrationhttps://btherunboarddirectory.runboard.com/p3697,from=rss#post3697https://btherunboarddirectory.runboard.com/p3697,from=rss#post3697Hi Firlefanz, I'm writing a help FAQ for my board and need to know what happens if somebody uses an email provider like AOL or Verizon and their validation gets blocked. Can they simply fill out the form again with the same name (and different email, of course)? Or will the name be 'taken' as a result of them submitting the form, even before clicking on the validation link, so they would have to re-register with a different name?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lesigner Girl)Sun, 08 Jan 2006 01:28:48 +0000 Account Registrationhttps://btherunboarddirectory.runboard.com/p3696,from=rss#post3696https://btherunboarddirectory.runboard.com/p3696,from=rss#post3696Courtesy of Rimmer: We stopped creating local accounts some time ago as we couldn't provide the same level of service as for a global account. So, all new accounts are global. This means that new members can post on any (non-restricted) Runboard. I can understand that this is confusing to those who have only belonged to a specific board before, not a whole community of messageboards. But Runboard membership allows people to store a number of links in their personal favourites area which is viewable when logged in (either through their control panel, at runboard.com or in their personal profile). That may help people find their way to your board. Every Runboard has an 'Add board to favorites' link at the top of the page (viewable when logged in). The registration process can be daunting to some and we have had problems in the past because some email providers (notably AOL and Verizon) will block the confirmation emails sent to new members. The normal process is: - Fill out the registration form, including acceptance of TOS and using a valid email address. - Get a 'congratulations' message and confirmation that an activation email has been sent to your nominated email address. Note: it is important that the 'congratulations' message is received. Sometimes, there is an error message shown when the form is completed. Some people miss the message and may believe that they have registered successfully. - The activation email contains a link which, when clicked, confirms the account name and displays that account's computer-generated password. - The new user can then go to the Runboard.com and log in. Once logged in, they should go to their Control Panel and change their password. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Firlefanz)Sat, 07 Jan 2006 11:05:35 +0000
