Find out here. If you were a part of one religion and left for another or became non-religious, or if you were non-religious and joined a religion later on in life, please feel free to add your own deconversion and/or conversion stories here. What led you to change your mind about your previously-held beliefs, or prompted you to hold beliefs that you never had before? What was your thought process, and what internal and/or external struggles have you gone through during this process? Christians, Muslims, Jews, pagans, etc., and former Christians, Muslims, Jews, pagans, etc, are all welcome to share your stories in this thread, as long as they involve a change from one way of thinking to another. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lesigner Girl)Sat, 17 May 2008 00:52:58 +0000 Re: Temple of Illusia: discuss problems w/church & statehttps://btherunboarddirectory.runboard.com/p224555,from=rss#post224555https://btherunboarddirectory.runboard.com/p224555,from=rss#post224555Ugarit and the Bible — Ancient tablets from Canaan help explain the origins of the Abrahamic religions. Thanks for stopping by, and I look forward to seeing you there more in the future. Hi Hasah! Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof That first part clearly means they are not allowed to show favoritism towards any particular religion.  But regardless, there are a few laws on the books right now that unfortunately "respect an establishment of religion" like the ban on gay marriage, and there is talk of adding more of these infringing laws. Regarding the nation being pulled away from "God," I don't see a problem with people basing their lives on observation and logic. On that note, I invite you to discuss your opinions with us at the Temple.  So far, most of the people there seem to agree with most of what I say, and it would be nice to debate with opposing viewpoints for once. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lesigner Girl)Sun, 21 May 2006 04:48:46 +0000 Re: Temple of Illusia: discuss problems w/church & statehttps://btherunboarddirectory.runboard.com/p8640,from=rss#post8640https://btherunboarddirectory.runboard.com/p8640,from=rss#post8640The separation of church and state was originally to curb the government's control over the church and that is what was intended. Circular reasoning for God's existence — and a few objections to one Christian's answers to objections. Nazism and Zionism grew up together? — This discussion has somewhat evolved to include the question of "Father Abraham's" true origins as an underlying theme. Ban Newsweek? — For using "an unnamed source to back up a one-sentence statement about desecration of the Koran in American prisons at Guantanamo Bay (allegations of which now appear to have been corroborated from dozens of sources)." Cut school funding, sell forestland to fund schooling — What are your thoughts on the government selling previously protected forestland to make up for some of the money lost through tax cuts, war, and contributions to oil-rich countries? White House knew about levee breech — Last night (Wednesday, March 1), the Associated Press obtained a smoking gun video of pre-Katrina briefings. Who knew what when? They all knew plenty beforehand, but some were not making the preparations they claimed they were making. Related: Levee decision angers Louisiana residents The Exodus Conspiracy — "The book's argument is basically that undisclosed papyrus documents supposedly found inside Tutankhamun's tomb contained an account of the Exodus that did not conform to the biblical version and thus could undermine the Jewish people's claimed right to occupy Palestine." Great Lies of the American Free Press — Adolph Hitler's "great lie theory" - the political tactic where a leader fabricates "great lies," then "eternally" repeats them until a significant portion of the population comes to accept them as truth. Does this sound familiar? What Was The Church Trying To Hide? — Quote: "If we examine the oldest known Bible to date, the "Sinai Bible" housed in the British Museum (I believe that, during his many years of research, Tony had a private viewing of this priceless book), we find a staggering 14,800 differences from today's Bible and yet it still remains the word of God?" An ego-centered Christian says, "Jesus is the only way" and an ego-centered Muslim says, "Islam is the only way." The translation of both statements is, "My way or the highway." The ego is the opposite of love... The ego is motivated by, "What's in it for me?" Love asks, "How may I serve you?" The ego is Satan in us. Love is God in us. What will Ehud Olmert do? — Faced with the most probable scenario that Israeli PM Ariel Sharon will not return to his position, I can't help but wonder what direction the next leader of Israel will take. While there is no guarantee that Deputy PM Ehud Olmert will stay in power after his 100 days are up, it's still a possibility, and he has all of power of the PM position until then. So much of the current conflict in this world is directly affected by the conflict in that tiny portion of it, so whatever happens there affects us all... Winkks, matters of this world - the thoughts and beliefs that drive the people within it and how this affects us all - are all I'm really focused on here. After all, there is really nothing we as citizens could do if, say, the Earth left its orbit and started heading for Mars. Seriously though, I hope you will stop by and share any insights you may have about how we can improve society. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Lesigner Girl)Sun, 01 Jan 2006 17:55:36 +0000 Re: Temple of Illusia: discuss problems w/church & statehttps://btherunboarddirectory.runboard.com/p8629,from=rss#post8629https://btherunboarddirectory.runboard.com/p8629,from=rss#post8629Hi and welcome! Your board is very, very nice! I’m also sure you will do well with issues and arguments, that are of this world. The only argument I have is…. arguing with those who are blinded is pretty much blowing in the wind, with the exception of being biblically sound for those searching truth or claim to be true. This is only “my” opinion. For sure… Winkks is not the gospel, hehe. Thank God! 2Co 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. The original concept of the forum was to take an in-depth, honest look at our world leaders, examine why they do what they do, and inform others of our findings, because only through knowledge and acting on that knowledge, can we make a positive difference in society. The further and further I delved, the more I realized that America has more of a problem with separating church and state than I once believed. It's not just about whether or not to allow "The 10 Commandments" to be hung on Federal property (whose set of 10 Commandments would they hang up, anyway?), it's not just about having a special "sin tax" on tobacco and alcohol, and it's not just about putting "In God We Trust" on our money. No, the inability for any country to separate church and state has caused more wars, both civil and with other countries, than anything else -- it has even put America in a much more dangerous position than many people may realize, and we really need to start acknowledging that. It's all an Illusion is not just for Americans. In fact, I hope to attract people from many different countries to share their own diverse viewpoints, as well as to read the viewpoints of others. Respectable debate is encouraged, as I believe it is the best way for people to learn from each other, which is exactly what I'm hoping for. I feel that it's quite appropriate that this section of the Runboard Directory is for both Politics and Religion, because there will never be a way to separate the two as long as they both exist.
